Perhaps not a beginner friendly disc as it tends to be quite overstable when you are just starting out (at least the ESP plastic). As your game improves and your arm speed increases this disc will be a straight / neutral disc that has a reliable fade at the end with a surprising amount of glide (it's a great forehand disc as well for turnover shots).

I bought this disc as an overstable fairway driver.
First throw just flying straight with a little fade in the end.
I think there is a big difference which Anax you get.
The Big Z is in my opinion very overstable, the ESP not so much.
After I got used to its flight, it is one of my go to drivers.
I often use it for turnover shots as well, because it will come back at the end.

A stepup in speed for me compared to a raptor. In ESP plastic it's cleary overstable, but still carries very long a lot of glide. Really good control/distance driver for both forehand and backhand shots.

The Anax is very similar to the Raptor, all things considered. You don't really notice the one speed point more. What they differ, however, is the very high glide of the Anax. In contrast to the Raptor, it flies straight for a relatively long time until it reliably fades towards the end of the flight path. I didn't really see the point of the disc in the beginning, but because of the very good glide I started using the Anax as my reliable overstable backhand disc in strong headwinds and the Raptor as my forehand disc, since the Raptor fades a bit more.
I would not classify the Anax as a beginner disc. The plastic is, as is normal for the Paul McBeth series, very good and durable and you have a very good grip in all weather conditions. All in all, the Anax is a disc that you do not necessarily need, but does its job very well if you choose it.
